It's Been Quite A Journey

Indian Creek began as a dream. In the late 1960's, Anne Chambers and Rebecca Randolph were working in the public schools. They often talked about what they would do if they could only do things their own way.

In 1973, they got their chance. The Indian Creek journey began when Tracy and Virginia Coleman agreed to purchase property and pay for the first building. Tracy Coleman, Jr. joined Anne and Becky in the planning stages to supervise the building project.

Pre-Kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade opened in September of 1973. It was a real trip! New buildings were built every couple of years and the first eighth grade class was graduated in 1979.

Over time, school leaders saw a real need to offer the same type of education they had been providing to younger students to secondary students, as well. The school purchased additional land in Crownsville for an Upper School, and graduated the first class of twelfth graders in 2008.

Two of the school's three founders are still active in the operation of the school. Anne Chambers is the head of school and Tracy Coleman is head of the physical plant and transportation.
